Photographs made by watching closely.

About the artist

I am interested in the evidence of a life: gesture, weather, rooms, objects, and the way people belong to a place.

I photograph throughout Northeast Washington and the Idaho Panhandle, often moving between portraits, documentary stories, and studies of landscape and the built environment. I work in digital and film, and develop much of my color and black and white film by hand.

Ninabird is a name from my own life. Birds have always held a special place for me. The name keeps this practice personal and connected to the person looking through the camera, not only the work produced.

01

Observation

I watch for the small details and unguarded gestures that give a photograph its emotional weight.

02

Place

Landscape, architecture, and domestic space are not backgrounds. They are part of the story.

03

Print

The photograph is most complete as an object, something made to be held, framed, and lived with.

Personal work becomes exhibitions and fine art prints. A limited number of commissions allow me to make this kind of work in collaboration with other people.
